Master Blender Max McFarlane identified the exceptional GlenAllachie cask #900416, distilled in 2008, for this momentous occasion. This rich and luscious spirit, matured in sherry casks since its inception, reached the perfect balance of wood influence and spirit under Max’s discerning palate. Bottled at a cask strength of 56.4%, this very limited release comprises only 414 bottles and is exclusively available in the UK through selected specialist retailers.

This mahogany malt obtains its spicy, treacly flavours from maturation in hogsheads made of Spanish Oak (Quercus Robur). This particular wood was sourced from the regions of Galicia and Asturias, specifically from the forests of the Cantabrian Mountains, which have a cool, humid climate. The oak was air dried for around 18 months and then toasted and charred to a medium level, opening up the oak to allow our complex spirit to extract its cask character. The secondary ageing in these virgin casks deepened the mahogany hue of the whisky and created a palate rich with dried fruits, maraschino cherries and hints of stem ginger.

The GlenAllachie Virgin Oak Series Batch Three is a unique whisky that underwent additional maturation in specially selected virgin oak casks for approximately 18 months, after being matured in American Oak ex-bourbon barrels. The oak species, local terroir, period of natural air drying, toasting, charring and coopering of the casks contribute to the subtle flavor differences of this series. The Master Distiller’s search for unusual oak led to Hungarian virgin oak barrels toasted and charred to a medium level, resulting in a well-balanced and aromatic single malt with a silky smooth richness.

NOSE: Bursting with butterscotch, citrus and milk chocolate, with cinnamon, raisins, orchard fruits and ginger.

MacNair’s Lum Reek 12-year-old combines Single Malts from Islay and Speyside – two of the most renowned whisky producing regions in Scotland. With a high malt content of 47%, including aged glenallachie and a peated islay single malt as Part of the blend, this small batch release has been carefully crafted by master blender, Billy Walker. With an extraordinary 50-year tenure in scotch whisky under his belt, he expertly sourced the finest whiskies from across scotland, in pursuit of a superbly harmonious expression which strikes the perfect balance of sweet and gentle peat.
Once skilfully blended, the whisky was filled into specially selected Pedro ximénez and oloroso puncheons, along with appalachian virgin oak casks, and laid down at the glenallachie distillery to rest and marry, amplifying the flavour experience.
