Nose – Aromatic Peat Reek With Fragrant Hints Of Honey, Fruit And Mellow Oak. Palate – An Avalanche Of Peat, Followed By An Extravagant And Complex Mix Of Fruit, Heather, Nuts, Oak Wood And Spices. Finish – A Distinct Malt With Great Depth And A Bitter Sweet Balance.
Pronounced ‘Ben Doo’ And Meaning Black Mountain After The Success Of Cu Dhub, The Black Whisky Made At Speyside For Danish Bottler Mac Y, The Distillery Has Decided To Launch Its Own Version. Beinn Dubh Translates As ‘Black Mountain’.
Nose – Caramel, Toasty, Soy, Walnut And Burnt Raisins. Palate – Cold Coffee With Dark Brown Sugar, Vanilla And Dried Fruit. Finish – Toffee And Chocolate Malt.
Nose – Very sweet on the nose. Initially it is all creme caramel, caramelised fruit sugars, wood sugar, toffee and fudge before some apple and peach come through. In time a charred note of bourbon with a pleasing dusty dryness.
Palate – A sweet start on the palate. The alcohol gives a little tongue-tingling buzz the result is a good mid-palate weight. The dry distillery character is there still, but there is now depth to counter. Water slightly dismantles the different elements, but adds some dried mint.
Officially Launched In 2006, This 10 Year Old Lies At The Heart Of The Isle Of Arran Range And Exudes All The Honeyed Richness We Have Come To Associate With The Island Distillery.
Nose – Sweet Oak And Honey Are Apparent. Hints Of Coconut And Candy Appear With A Dash Of Water Whilst Butterscotch And Liquorice Are Also Evident. Palate – Crisp And Malty With A Slight Nuttiness. Finish – Clean And Fresh With A Lingering Creamy Sweetness.
Today The Distillery Is The Only One On Arran. Back In The Early 1800s There Were Many Small Stills To Be Found Across The Island. Not All Of Them Were Legal, But All Made Superlative Spirit.
