Badachro Gin 57° Storm Strengthis a full flavoured, high strength version of the well know Badachro Gin. Originally created for cocktail use, it’s becoming rather popular for making a flavour packed and ‘turbo-charged’ gin & tonic.   Originally created for cocktail use, it’s becoming rather popular for making a flavour packed and ‘turbo-charged’ gin & tonic! Fantastic also in a Negroni or a grown-up Gin Martini.

57% abv is the traditional ‘navy strength’ benchmark, coming from the days when sailors would test that their rum & gin rations had not been watered-down by pouring some of the ration onto a small pile of gunpowder and lighting it. If the wet gunpowder burned, then the spirit was 57% abv or over, but if it didn’t… then someone had been ‘at it’! And as if by fate, Badachro Distillery is located close to the 57° North line of latitude.

This 28-year-old was matured in ex-bourbon casks and pairs the distillery’s fruity character with darker, nuttier notes.   Aged in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels for 28 years, this expression from Fettercairn is deep shimmering gold in colour. With initial bursts of pineapple and melon on the nose before giving way to treacle and banana, and hints of warm ginger and liquorice; this expression opens up to citrus peel and black pepper on first taste, followed by tempered walnuts, coffee, apricot, and a touch of sweet balsamic for a rewarding drinking experience

    Glendronach Port Wood 70cl

The GlenDronach Port Wood is inspired by the historical import of casked port into Scotland during the 19th century.  During the 1800’s, port was “de rigueur”, and many of the finest port pipes would travel from Portugal, down its Douro River, destined for the wine cellars of the gentry.  Whilst many years have passed, Portugal’s majestic Douro Valley is still renwoned for exceptional port.  Glendronach have selected some of the fines port pipes to enrich their whisky for the second maturation period, expertly combining the whisky from these port pipes, to create a fruit filled expression, with layers of ripe berries rolling into their signature long, lingering finish.

This is the result of 18 long years and a generous proportion of first-fill sherry casks. And of the patience we take over the slowest distillation in Scotland.

Glengoyne The Legacy Series Chapter Two 70cl

The second bottling in our Legacy Series follows on from Chapter One and 1869, when Cochrane Cartwright made innovations that define Glengoyne to this day. First, he slowed our distillation process down, helping to make it the most unhurried in Scotland. Then he introduced all-important sherry casks in which to mature our spirit. 134 years later the next chapter in our story unfolded when Peter Russell and his family fulfilled their dream of having their very own distillery and became custodians of Glengoyne. Shielding us from the changing winds of fashion, the Russells have helped us stick resolutely to Cartwright’s original vision. We call it the Glengoyne Way. Investing in the crafting and preparation of purpose made casks and enabling the exploration different maturation processes, Peter and his family have helped ensure Glengoyne flourished, remaining the one of a kind dram cherished by whisky lovers worldwide. Chapter Two in our Legacy Series marries spirits matured in two distinct cask types – first fill bourbon and refill sherry casks.

“In the stillness of our quiet glen, we know patience is rewarded. For every minute other whiskies spend in their stills, ours spends three. Only then is it transferred to casks, themselves prepared for six years. This is the Glengoyne Way.  We savour time to create quality and know when to press pause in this fast-forward world. Like capsules in time, our whiskies capture moments to be enjoyed and remembered.
Every minute counts, because time is a gift.”

The Macallan 15yo Double Cask 70cl

The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old is a balanced single malt whisky created by bringing the perfect harmony of two oaks into one exceptional single malt whisky. Sherry seasoned American oak adds delicate vanilla to the subtle spice of European oak, delivering a whisky with a sweeter, warmer taste and character.  Two distinct oaks create the perfect harmony within one exceptional single malt whisky. Our Double Cask whiskies are aged in two types of oak, in specially selected hand-crafted casks seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry. American oak imparts delicate flavours of vanilla, citrus and butterscotch. European oak delivers the unmistakable subtle spice of The Macallan. Once matured after 15 years, these two exceptional whiskies unite to create a distinctive single malt with a sweeter, warmer taste and character. Enjoy it neat, over ice or in a serve.

The Tomatin Decades II is rich and complex, having been matured in traditional Scotch whisky, ex-Bourbon, ex-Sherry and re-charred French oak casks hand selected from various vintages spanning the last fifty years.

    Tasting Notes

Nose: An initial burst of citrus fruits gives way for hints of sweet pastry and wood shavings. Cooked fruits are balanced by softer floral and coconut tones. There is an overall sense of maturity with dried fruits, almonds and exotic spices adding real depth.

Palate: Unctuous with Christmas cake, maple syrup and fresh red berries. In time tropical fruits emerge with orange peel and ginger.

Finish: Long and waxy with tropical fruit, chocolate and spice.

    THE CASKS

1970s REFILL BOURBON HOGSHEADS DISTILLED ON 23/02/1973, 10/07/1975 AND 23/09/1977

Tomatin from the 1970’s is held in exceptionally high regard, prized for its depth and complexity. Matured in refill Hogsheads, this malt has taken on very little oak influence which has allowed the air and liquid in the casks to interact and develop a wide array of tropical fruit flavours.

1980s FINISHED IN FIRST FILL OLOROSO SHERRY BUTTS DISTILLED ON 02/12/1988

Tomatin from the 1980’s is sweet and fresh. This malt has been finished for over three years in 1st fill Oloroso Sherry Butts, resulting in a whisky reminiscent of aged Cognac. Tones of aged leather, polished oak and dark roast coffee along with flavours of stone fruit, dark chocolate and tannin add richness.

1990s FIRST FILL BOURBON BARRELS DISTILLED ON 04/10/1995

The use of 1st fill Bourbon Barrels has developed a malt with characteristics of golden syrup, freshly baked pastries with subtle spices and add a layer of warmth. Although well into its twenties, Tomatin from the 1990’s is bold which helps impart long length to the overall finish.

2000s RECHARRED VERDEJO WINE BARRELS DISTILLED ON 28/01/2000 AND 05/06/2009

From 2000 onwards Tomatin began to experiment with a wider variety of casks. The malt used from the 2000’s has been matured in Verdejo Wine casks which have been re-charred to harness the full influence of the French oak. This adds sweetness as well as some spicier notes.

2010s SECOND FILL FRENCH OAK BARRELS DISTILLED ON 14/03/2013

Young Tomatin in second fill casks allows the distillery character to shine through. Fresh green fruits and malty characteristics are to the fore with subtle spice and toffee from the light French oak influence. This is a vivacious malt which adds lighter tones but is kept in balance with the older casks.
