This festival release of a Limited Edition whisky was initially distilled on October 28th, 1998 and then matured in American Oak casks before being transferred to first-fill Manzanilla sherry casks on May 25th, 2016 for the finishing stage. Manzanilla sherry is renowned for its coastal, nutty, and salty notes, which are similar to the characteristics of our Bunnahabhain spirit. Despite being less common than some other sherries, our Master Blender and Master Distiller appreciate using it in our whisky.
To intensify and concentrate the flavor, this festival edition whisky is bottled at cask strength, without added color, and non-chillfiltered, in line with all our whiskies.

Palate – Fruit Compote Doused In Cream And Caster Sugar, This Develops Into Roasted Malt, Chestnuts And Stewed Raisins.
Finish – Demerara Sugar, Mixed Spice, Nutmeg And Caramel Lingering For Long After The Final Sip.

Stiùireadair (pronounced ‘stew-rahdur’) and meaning Helmsman in Scots Gaelic, is the first Bunnahabhain Limited Edition to pay homage to the Bunnahabhain Helmsman, who adorns every bottle. But the Helmsman is no mere icon, he is a reminder of Bunnahabhin’s origins, and links to the past, and a symbol of the enduring appreciation of the sea by which Islay is surrounded. To create Stiùireadair, Bunnahabhain’s Senior Blender selected first and second fill sherry casks with spirit of varying ages and warehouse locations to construct a dram that truly exposes the coastal nature of the Bunnahabhain single malt whisky, whilst not losing the sherry influence everyone knows and loves in the famous 12 year old.

Matured in specially selected casks in seaside warehouses, this 46.3% ABV expression opens with tart green apple, followed by warming peat smoke and hints of dark chocolate. Best enjoyed neat, it offers a rich, smoky sip that transports you to the shores of Islay. Hard to say, easy to love.

This 11-year-old Bunnahabhain single malt, bottled by North Star Spirits, showcases the rich influence of a first-fill Oloroso sherry butt. Distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2020 at 52.3% ABV, this limited release of just 630 bottles delivers layers of deep sherry character. The nose is filled with rum-soaked dried fruit, toasted almonds, and crystallised ginger, leading to a palate of caramel, melted chocolate, and warming sherry. The finish lingers with notes of ground cinnamon, orange peel, and espresso, making this Islay whisky a decadent and well-rounded dram.
