Fermentation stands as a crucial element in shaping Scotch Whisky flavours. In the second edition of the Workshop Series, distillers from The Borders Distillery Company conducted experiments with both very short 55-hour and extended 150-hour fermentations. Following double distillation and maturation in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, these batches were blended with single grain whisky. This exclusive release, represented by WS:02 The Long & Short of it, maintains a chill-filtered 40% ABV and offers individual bottle numbering. Only 8,400 bottles are available worldwide.

Welcome to the Workshop Series. In 2019, a small batch of rye spirit was distilled and matured in the same fresh-fill bourbon casks as the malt, resulting in the creation of a remarkable and aromatic whisky. This particular whisky marks the first Blended Scotch Whisky to be produced outside the Scottish Borders since 1837, and it is also the inaugural expression of the Workshop Series from the Borders Distillery.
The whisky is bottled without filtration, comprising 63.8% Single Grain and 36.2% Single Malt. It is entirely distilled by the Borders Distillery. Each bottle of WS:01 Borders Malt & Rye is individually numbered, with a limited release of only 5,988 bottles available for sale in the UK.

Right As Rain is the third release in The Borders Distillery’s experimental blended Scotch whisky series — a harmonious marriage of 75% single malt and 25% single grain rye whisky. Matured in a combination of Cognac, red wine, and first-fill bourbon casks, it’s crafted entirely in the Scottish Borders and bottled without filtration. Expect aromas of tinned peaches, vanilla fudge, and fig, followed by red apple pie and caramel on the palate, finishing creamy and warming. 70cl | 40% ABV.

The Borders Distillery present this malted barley vodka, steam smoothed in a rare Carterhead Still. The process begins with the locally-grown barley which is pot distilled then re-distilled into vodka using a rare and specially-commissioned Carterhead Still, named “Puffing Billy.” In order to ensure that the delicious flavour can be appreciated by the drinker, borders distillery do not employ regular filtration methods. Instead they steam the spirit through charcoal that is inside the Carterhead Still. This vodka has subtle creamy hints comes in a miniature 5cl bottle with 40% ABV.
