Nose – Very sweet on the nose. Initially it is all creme caramel, caramelised fruit sugars, wood sugar, toffee and fudge before some apple and peach come through. In time a charred note of bourbon with a pleasing dusty dryness.
Palate – A sweet start on the palate. The alcohol gives a little tongue-tingling buzz the result is a good mid-palate weight. The dry distillery character is there still, but there is now depth to counter. Water slightly dismantles the different elements, but adds some dried mint.
Finish – A deep and dark finish.

As you step onto The Gauldrons’ fine, clean sand, you also step back in time. Over yonder is where a spider building his web with great patience but great difficulty inspired King Robert the Bruce to try, try and try again, having been defeated by his enemies. All around, you can sense the ghosts of the long lost distilleries that once proudly proclaimed Campbeltown Scotland’s Whisky capital. The Gauldrons is a marriage of the finest Campbeltown Malts, bottled in very small batches at 46.2% ABV, and proudly without colouring or chill-filtration. The complex nose reveals honeycomb with brown sugar, sea salt and a late hint of subtle spices. The palate is mouth coating and sweet with a peppery warmth developing to a beachy and maritime character. The finish brings vanilla and oak with puffs of smoke and biscuity sweetness.
