The first tipple to come from Edinburgh’s Port of Leith Distillery has arrived in the shape of Lind & Lime Gin!
The Dr (James Lind) took a base spirit at 96% ABV and re-distilled it with a carefully curated recipe of 7 botanicals to ensure that each of them worked in delicate harmony. The main three being:
Juniper: the cornerstone of any gin. It’s what makes gin gin. Indeed the English name ‘gin’ is derived from the Dutch word for juniper: jenever.
Lime: He decided early on that he wanted a lime flavour in the gin. Not fruit pastel, confected lime, but zesty refreshing lime, which they extract this from the rind, or skin of the lime.
Pink Peppercorn: The lime needed something to counterbalance it and the answer they found was a gentle addition of spice from pink peppercorns.

Blood Oranges are harvested in November where their rich red colour develops from the cool Mediterranean nights.
The Blood Orange peels are steeped in alcohol and pressed in a basket press. The infusion is then blended with juniper and other botanicals before being distilled in a stainless steel vacuum still.

Originally crafted as a limited edition to celebrate the marriage of the makers Colin & Jessica in June 2018, McLean’s Something Blue has proved so popular they introduced to their permanent range on the 6th anniversary of they day they first met.
Something Blue focuses on Colin & Jessica’s two favourite botanicals; the Tonka Bean and the Buchu Leaf.
Tonka Beans resemble small raisins with the nose of vanilla, marzipan and caramel, with hints of freshly cut grass, clove and magnolia. Buchu Leaves are native to Southern Africa and have an intriguing and invigorating fragrance with primary notes of blackcurrant, mint, mango and fresh, hand-rolled tobacco, with a herbal nuance.
These botanicals are then combined with 5 secret botanicals to produce McLean’s most unusual, exciting gin.
Produced entirely by hand in small batches in Glasgow, the Something Blue Gin is made using a process first used in the early 17th century.
Each bottle of McLean’s Gin is bottled, labelled and sealed individually by hand.

The rock samphire is locally foraged from the space between the sea and the shore, the world of the free spirited mermaid. Boadicea hops are grown at the famous Ventnor Botanic Garden and our coriander seeds are the first to be commercially grown in England. The other botanicals – including angelica root, liquorish root and orris root – are sourced by a father & son partnership visiting families and farmers around the world.
